CONSTITUTION:A write gate signal output means 26 outputs the 1st write gate signal corresponding to the magnetic head 25 of the tunnel erasure system and the 2nd write at signal decided based on the distance X between the erasure gap 12 and the read/write gap 10 in the magnetic head 24 of the preceding wide erasure system corresponding to the magnetic head 24 of the preceding wide erasure system. Then in the case of the tunnel erasure system mode, the device is controlled by the 1st write gate signal and in the case of the preceding wide erasure system mode, the data recording is controlled by the 2nd write gate signal.
