Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a simple rear wheel steering mechanism by forming a rack separately on the slidable shaft section of a front wheel steering mechanism of a rack pinion type for engaging the pinion of a rear wheel steering connection shaft, and providing a front wheel steering rod in parallel with the shaft section via a connecting member. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft connected with a handle wheel 1 enables No.1 shaft 15 to be displaceable to the axial direction via a PS control valve 19 by means of a rack pinion mechanism 16 for engaging the end pinion of the connecting shaft 40 of a rear wheel steering mechanism with a rack section formed separately so that rear wheels may be steered while being interlocked with front wheel steering. No.2 shaft 13 is arranged in parallel with No.1 shaft via a connector 14, a PS working cylinder 18 is provided so as to steer front wheels 2 by both a tie-rod 11 and a knuckle arm 12. Owing to this constitution, the force of the PS cylinder 18 will never actuate the connecting shaft 40 of the rear wheel steering mechanism, thereby enabling the attempt providing the rear wheel steering mechanism which is small in size, light in weight and is mechanically simple.
