Abstract
PURPOSE:To keep the sulfuric acid quantity contained in a positive electrode adequate and suppress the dropping off of an active material by using an electrolyte containing dilute sulfuric acid with certain specific gravity and a separator member formed with a specific mat layer. CONSTITUTION:The specific gravity of the dilute sulfuric acid contained in an electrolyte is set to 1.34+ or -0.02 as converted for 20 deg.C, a separator member in an electrode plate group of a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate is provided with a center layer mainly made of a glass mat and a synthetic resin mat layer and a mat layer made of glass fiber and kraft pulp to form a lead storage battery. The sulfuric acid quantity contained in the positive electrode is kept adequate, the dropping off of an active material is suppressed, a high capacity at the initial stage is stably obtained, and the high capacity is maintained for a long time.
