Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the manufacture cost and lengthen the life of a sealed lead storage battery, by employing an electrolyte-holding body made of a material with a porosity within a given range which contains a given amount of glass fibers having a given diameter and length. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte-holding body 1 is interposed between a negative plate 2 and a positive plate 3. The negative plate 2, a negative strap 5 and a negative pole 6 and so on are welded to form an assembled unit. The assembled unit is placed in a container 4, and, after an electrolyte is filled in the container 4, the lid of the container 4 is fixed to adhere to the container body, thus constituting a battery. The electrolyte-holding body 1 is made of a material with a porosity of 70- 95% which contains 90-98wt% of glass fibers having a fiber-diameter of 0.5-1mu and a fiber-length of 1.0-3.0mm..
