Abstract

PURPOSE:To sufficiently deal with even a place where a condition for installing an on-road device on a road is rigorous by providing one on-road device with both sign post function and vehicle sensing function. CONSTITUTION:Place data in the on-road device is outputted from place data outputting means 2, 4, 6 by the combination of a triangular wave pulse. A microwave frequency output, corresponding to the change of the given triangular wave pulse, is outputted from a microwave oscillator 8. This output is transmitted over the road from a microwave antenna 12 buried under a ground. This transmission output is reflected by a vehicle on the road, and received by the antenna 12. In detecting means 14, 16, 20, the heat frequency components of this received output and the output from the oscillator 8 is detected. In a vehicle sensing means 20-28, the presence of the vehicle on the road is sensed according to the detected beat frequency component.
