Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the hardness of a sample handily and accurately, by computing the hardness thereof based on loads at desired two measuring points to be applied on an indentor and a corresponding displacement of the indentor. CONSTITUTION:A load applicator 1 increases or decreases a load depending on the direction of current which is supplied to a solenoid 3 from a load current feeder 13 to be applied to a sample 6 through an indentor 8. A load generated with the load applicator 1 and a displacement of the surface of the sample 6 detected with displacement detectors 9 are inputted into a CPU 15 through a load current feeder 13 and an A/D converter 12. The CPU 15 computes a hardness H of the sample 6 by performing computation by the formula based on loads P1 and P2 at desired two measuring points to be applies to the indentor 8 and detection displacements D1 and D2 of displacement detectors 9 corresponding thereto.
