Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce an extra-light-weight concrete of superior mechanical strength by mixing a prescribed amount of silica fume with a mixture of extra- light-weight aggregates obtained by granulating porous biotite rhyotite fine- powders, water and cement. CONSTITUTION:The extra-light-weight concrete is produced by mixing 1-30wt.%, preferably 10-15wt.% silica fume with the mixture of extra-light- weight aggregates obtained by granulating and calcining porous biotite rhyotite fine-powders, water and cement. A grain size of the above-mentioned extra-light- weight aggregates are in the range of 0.6-5mm, and an amount of the aggregates mixed in the above-mentioned concrete is usually 60-80wt.%. A water-cement ratio (W/C) is usually about 35-55%. The extra-light-weight concrete produced by said invention is of high hydration activity, and extra-fine powders of the silica fume mixed in the cement are rapidly dissolved into a solution containing calcium hydroxide separated by a hydration of the cement. Then, a siliceous gel layer is deposited on the particle surface of said silica fume, and a very fine structure of Ca-silicates is formed thereby.
