Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance a recording speed by allowing a large recording current to flow, by a method wherein a return electrode is arranged on the unused side of a resistance ink ribbon from a recording electrode and the recording current is allowed to flow in the return electrode through the unused part of the ink ribbon whose conductive layer is not damaged. CONSTITUTION:An ink ribbon 16 and recording paper 27 are supplied to the position directly under the recording electrode 30 in a recording head 11 and three of them are brought into contact with each other under pressure to form a recording region. The recording electrode 30 is driven according to a recording signal by a recording circuit 31 and a recording current is injected in a resistance support 32. A return electrode 15 is arranged on the unused side of an ink ribbon 15 when looking from the recording region (the position of the recording electrode 30), that is, the upstream side from the position of the recording electrode 30 in relation to the relative moving direction A of the recording electrode 30 and the ink ribbon 16. Therefore, a recording current flows while utilizing the whole width of the conductive layer 33 of the ink ribbon 16 in a recording process to return to the return electrode 15. By this method, even when the ink ribbon 16 is moved at a speed lower than the moving speed of the recording electrode 30, the cutting of the ink ribbon 16 is prevented and high speed recording can be performed.
