Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the water resistance of a coated film by dissolving a prepolymer with a siloxane bond as the principal chain bond in a mixed solvent to obtain a coating soln., applying the coating soln. on a material to be coated, and then curing the coated film while firstly volatilizing the good solvent having a low b.p. CONSTITUTION:The prepolymer with a siloxane bond as the principal chain bond is dissolved in the mixed solvent consisting of a low-b.p. solvent having high solubility to the prepolymer and a high-b.p. solvent having medium or low solubility to the prepolymer to prepare a coating soln. The coating soln. is applied on the material to be coated, and then the coated film is cured while firstly volatilizing the low-b.p. good solvent. The remaining high-b.p. solvent is then removed, and a porous coated film is formed. The prepolymer with a siloxane bond as the principal chain bond is appropriately obtained by hydrolyzing and then condensing a monomer consisting essentially of silicon alkoxide.
