Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a glass article with a prescribed tempering degree in high efficiency by blowing cooling air, which has the pressure reduced rapidly from an original one, from a nozzle to the article and differing the timing of cooling from the center to the periphery. CONSTITUTION:When the strength of a glass article 3-5mm thick is increased by blowing cooing air from the nozzle to the surface of the article heated up to 550-650 deg.C, the pressure of the cooling air is rapidly reduced from 1.5kg/cm<2>G down to 0.01-0.2kg/cm<2>G, sent into the air chamber to use the area from the inside of the air chamber to the top end of the nozzle just like a shock wave tube and the glass article is cooled down from the center toward the periphery in sequence.
