Abstract

PURPOSE:To rapidly work crown height by forming the face of a slider like a circular arc face by a difference of thermal expansion coefficients between a backing material and a magnetic head slider. CONSTITUTION:The slider face 3 is formed like a plane by lap finishing or the like. The backing material 4 consisting of a material whose thermal expansion coefficient is larger than that of a material of a magnetic head slider 1 on the opposite face (rear face) against an opposed face to the magnetic disk face of the magnetic head slider 1 is formed by sputtering and then cooled. When the temperature goes to a room temperature, a circular arc face is formed on the magnetic head slider 1 by the difference of the thermal expansion coefficients between the backing material 4 and the magnetic head slider 1. Consequently, the crown height (h) of the slider 1 can be highly accurately worked to a required value.
