Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce an eddy current loss and to improve recording/magnetic output characteristics in a high frequency area by forming insulating layers or semiconductor layers in 1st and 2nd soft magnetic films rectangularly to the sliding face of a magnetic recording medium of a thin film magnetic head so as to divide respective soft magnetic films. CONSTITUTION:Insulating layers 4, 7, 9, 16 or semiconductor layers are formed in the 1st and 2nd soft magnetic films 3, 6, 15, 18 so as to be rectangular to the magnetic recording medium sliding face of the thin film magnetic head 30 and the magnetic gap G and divide respective soft magnetic films 3, 6, 15, 18. Even if the film thickness of the films 3, 6, 15, 18 respectively constituting magnetic core halves is increased, the electric resistance of the whole films 3, 6, 15, 18 against eddy current can be increased because the films 3, 6, 15, 18 are divided by the insulating layers 4, 7, 9, 16 or semiconductor layers. Consequently, the eddy current loss in the video band of high frequency can be reduced and satisfied recording/reproducing output characteristics can be obtained.
