Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a flame-retarding epoxy resin composition reduced in the formation of noxious gases excellent in safety and noncorrosive to copper, by using a specified modified red phosphorus as a flame retardant. CONSTITUTION:A flame-retarding epoxy resin composition comprising an epoxy resin, an acid anhydride, a cure accelerator, a filler and a flame retardant, wherein said flame retardant is modified red phosphorus which has an electric conductivity [as measured on an aqueous solution (5wt.% slurry) after heating at 190 deg.C for 3hr] of 100muS/cm or below. By using said modified red phosphorus, the obtained resin composition is reduced in the formation of noxious gases and excellent in safety and noncorrosiveness to copper. This resin composition further excels in arc resistance and tracking resistance. It can be extensively used in the simultaneous impregnation and casting of high-voltage transformers or electrical and electronic components.
