Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a good binder for prepn. of a toner by sealing the hydroxyl group of the molecular terminal of polyester polyol with rosin and using the terminal sealed polyester as the binder. CONSTITUTION:The hydroxyl group at the molecular terminal of the polyester polyol is sealed with rosin or hydrogenated rosin so that the acid value attains <=4KOHmg/g and the hydroxyl value attains <=20KOHmg/g. This terminal sealed polyester is obtd. by charging for example, polybasic acid and polyhydric alcohol, charging the rosin or hydrogenated rosin in combination therewith and effecting esterification reaction. The terminal sealed polyester as well as a coloring agent, charge control agent and other additives are compounded and are kneaded to prepare the toner. The terminal sealed polyester is electrosatically charged positive if said polyester is compounded with the charge control agent for positive and the polyester is charged negative if the polyester is compounded with the charge control agent for negative and, therefore, said polyester is usable as the excellent toner binder.
