Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a hard coated member having relieved internal stress, improved crack and exfoliation resistances and superior durability by coating the surface of a hard coating layer formed on a base material with cubic BN and/or hard amorphous BN with an intermediate layer of a Ti, Al or Si compd. such as nitride, carbide or boride in-between. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer of one or more kinds of compds. such as Ti nitride, carbide, carbonitride, boride and boronitride, Al nitride, Si nitride and carbide is formed on the surface of a base material or the surface of a hard coating layer formed on a base material. The thickness of the intermediate layer is preferably regulated to 0.1-2mum. A film of cubic BN and/or hard amorphous BN having 2-8mum, preferably 2-5mum thickness is then formed on the intermediate layer to obtain a hard coated member having the above- mentioned characteristics as a semiconductor member or a cutting tool member.
