CONSTITUTION:A sensitizer for enhancing the sensitivity of a thermal recording material which comprises on a base a thermal color forming layer comprising a colorless or light-colored leuco dye as a color forming substance and a phenol compound as a color developing substance comprises, as a main constituent, at least one ether derivative of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyldihydroxydiphenylsulfone of general formula (1). In the formula, each of R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, is a 1-4C alkyl, alkenyl or the like. The color forming substance and the color developing substance are applied to a base such as a paper in the state of being dispersed in a binder together with various additives.
