Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the temperature distribution in the axial direction of a hollow roll uniform by arranging a plurality of solenoid coils in the axial direction of and between the hollow roll and a rotary shaft and inserting an iron core between the rotary shaft and the solenoid coil. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of solenoid coils 8 are arranged in the axial direction of and between a hollow roll 5 and a rotary shaft 1. An iron core 9 is inserted between the rotary shaft 1 and the solenoid coil 8. With this constitution, a closed magnetic circuit is formed with the iron core 9, a supporting plate 6, and the roll 5 when each solenoid coil 8 is excited. Magnetic flux induced with each solenoid coil 8 flows through the entire roll 5 to cause the roll 5 to be heated so that the temperature distribution in the axial direction of the roll 5 becomes uniform.
