Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the exfoliation of a thermal sprayed film and to improve the corrosion resistance thereof in an arc thermal spraying method by reducing the pressure in a thermal spraying atmosphere to a specific pressure and injection an inert gas from a center nozzle. CONSTITUTION:Electric current is supplied to a pair of metallic wires 11 from a power supply for arc generation to generate an arc between the tips of the wires 11. The tips of a pair of the wires 11 are, therefore, melted by the heat of the arc 13 and molten metal particles 14 are flown by the gas injected from the enter nozzle and are stuck onto the surface of a base material 9. The thermal spraying atmosphere in the cover 12 is maintained under 10-700Torr at this time. The inert gas is injected from the center nozzle 8 toward the molten metal particles 14 and the wires 11 are continuously fed through guide pipes 10 to form the thermally sprayed film 15 on the base material 9. The adhesive power is thereby increased and the thermally sprayed film 15 having the improved denseness is obtd.
