Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a orally administered solid pharmaceutical for treating an epileptic seizure or spasmodic syndrome that enables easy production of solid pharmaceutical preparations having reduced hygroscopicity and improved stability while retaining an efficacy equivalent to or more than that of conventional pharmaceutical preparations by using crystalline single compound consisting of valpronic acid and sodium valproate at a specific mol ratio as the main active component. CONSTITUTION: This orally administered solid pharmaceutical effective for treating an epileptic seizure or spasmodic syndrome comprises a crystalline single compound consisting of valpronic acid and sodium valproate at a mol ratio of (1:1), and one or more excipients or diluents which are permitted for pharmaceutical preparations, thereby enabling production of pharmaceutical preparations in the solid form without special precautions and use of absorbents because its non-hygroscopicity and very high stability while exhibiting its efficacy of the same degree as that of the liquid valpronic acid and its sodium salt, which is hygroscopic and unstable. A specific amount of this pharmaceutical is mixed with starch and/or other binders to make a flowable powdery mixture, and the powdery mixture is granulated and then pelletized through a pelletizer, to provide the excellent pellets.
