1,125,793. Bismuth-chlorohydroxyquinoline complexes. E. R. SQUIBB & SONS Inc. 26 Oct., 1965 [10 Nov., 1964], No. 45259/65. Heading C2C. Novel bismuth-chlorohydroxyquinoline complexes having the formula wherein X is chloro, m is 1, 2 or 3 and n is 0 or 1, are prepared by reacting a chlorohydroxyquinoline or a mixture of isomers thereof with a bismuth salt in an acid medium, adjusting the pH of the reaction to between 5 and 10 and recovering the precipitate thus formed. Pharmaceutical compositions having antidiarrheal and analgesic activity may be administered orally in the form of tablets, capsules, aqueous suspensions or elixirs, and contain a compound of the general formula above as the active ingredient.
