Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a sensor head, by irradiating an object to be welded with slit light formed of luminous flux from a light emitting element. CONSTITUTION:A laser light from a laser diode 4 of a light emitting element at a protector section 2 is stopped with a projection lens 5 and irradiates an object 7 to be welded as slit light turned with a slit 6. Reflected light from the object 7 being welded is condensed with a light receiving lens 8 at a light receiving section 3 to hit a position detection element 9 as slit light. An electrical signal converted from light with the position detecting element 9 is inputted into a recognizing section 10 and position information pertaining to a weld line detected with the recognizing section 10 is transmitted to a high-order computer 11. In this manner, the object 7 being welded is irradiated with the slit light formed by a luminous flux from the light emitting element 4 to eliminate the need for providing an additional component part to drive the sensor head 1 thereby reducing the size of the sensor head 1 accordingly.
