Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a new fiber optic temperature measuring instrument which can measure the temperature of an object regardless of the magnitude of the temperature by using an indirect transition energy gap type single-crystal or polycrystalline semiconductor as a temperature sensitive element. CONSTITUTION: Light emitted from.a light source 10 is introduced to a converter 14 through a optical fiber 12. Since the converter 14 is composed of an indirect transition energy gap type single-crystal or polycrystalline semiconductor and attenuates light when the temperature rises, the converter 14 works as a temperature sensitive element. The light attenuated by the converter 14 is introduced to a detector 18 through an optical fiber 16, transmits the temperature information of the converter through its brightness and darkness, and transferred by means of a circuit 20 as an electric signal.
