Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the disconnected part of a wire easily, by detecting the variation of a level of photodetecting quantity of light emitted from the one end of an optical fiber which is bent mechanically. CONSTITUTION:A highly luminous halogen lamp 2 is connected to the one end of an optical fiber 1 and is fixed. Further, a photomultiplier for photodetecting quantity level detection 5 is connected to the other end and is fixed. The optical fiber 1 is provided with a disconnected part detection roller 4 and is bent and also, is positioned at a standard position and then, the position of a pointer of an XY recorder 6 is set. A lamp 2 is lighted and the roller 4 is moved along an axis direction of the fiber 1. A linear output is recorded other than the disconnected part on the recorder 6 but an optical axis is shifted at the disconnected part and the photodetecting quantity is decreased and then the output is varied. The position of the disconnected part is found from this output of the recorder.
