Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high resolution, a high dynamic range and a high speed processing, by synthesizing the photodetector outputs of each group of a high- order sensor, and also, synthesizing the corresponding photodetector outputs of each group of a low-order array sensor, respectively. CONSTITUTION:Array sensors 1a, 1b are provided in parallel in the moving direction and the orthogonal direction of an image forming spot, and both the array sensors 1a, 1b are divided into plural groups, respectively. Also, photodetector outputs of each group of the high-order array sensor 1a are synthesized. Subsequently, the corresponding photodetector outputs of each group of the low-order array sensor 1b are synthesized, respectively. In a position detecting part 3, encoded position information is outputted by detecting an image formed position of spots which are brought to an image formation on the array sensors 1a, 1b, based on both the synthesized outputs by high-order and low-order position detecting parts 5, 6.
