Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber with excellent strength and water absorption by using a mixed aqueous solution of a hydrophilic group-containing crystalline polymer and a strongly hydrophilic amorphous polymer as a spinning dope to effect dry-spinning, and by treating the fibers with heat for insolubilization. CONSTITUTION:Initially, (A) a hydrophilic group-containing crystalline polymer such as PVA and (B) a strongly hydrophilic amorphous polymer such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone are used to prepare a mixed aqueous solution. The mixed aqueous solution is used as a spinning dope to effect dry-spinning in air. Finally, the fibers are insolubilized by heat treatment to give the subject fibers. The heat treatment is carried out at 200-230 deg.C for 30sec-30min. The coagulation of the dope is done only by blowing hot air in the fiber-running direction and the reverse direction by means of a hot-air blower.
