Abstract
PURPOSE: To achieve a higher measuring accuracy of the thickness of scale with easier discrimination of reflected ultrasonic waves generated on an interface, by transmitting a pulse-like ultrasonic wave several times at a specified time interval to the inside of a fluid pipe to check a correlationship between a delay signal and a direct signal.
CONSTITUTION: Pulse-like ultrasonic waves 5 are transmitted to the inside of a pipe 2 with a fluid 1 flowing therethrough from outside the pipe 2 at specified time intervals and the reflected wave hereof is received to output an echo signal 16a according to an elapsed pattern of the reflected wave. The echo signal 16a is delayed by a time equal to a time interval to be outputted as delay signal 17a. A difference signal 18a is displayed with time according to a difference between the delay signal 17a and the echo signal 16a. A non- waveform time is detected in the results on display to measure the thickness of scale 6 from an interface 9 to 10 from the results of measurement and sound velocity through the scale and pipe material and the thickness of the pipe wall obtained by a separate means.
