Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the general usefulness and the reliability of a pro grammable LSI by providing the LSI itself with a function which cyclically reads out its operation mode setting data from an external memory to set this data to an internal operation mode setting register. CONSTITUTION:When a programming mode designating signal AUTO applied to the input terminal of a programmable LSI 1 is set to the automatic programming mode side, the counted value of a counter ACT which performs the counting operation by a signal ACK generated by a timing control circuit WCTL is successively sent to the external through an address bus AB. Consequently, since a memory 2 in which operation mode setting data is stored is provided on the outside of the programmable LSI 1 and is connected to the bus of the programmable LSI 1, contents in each address of the memory 2 are read out to the data bus DB and this read data is set to respective operation mode setting registers REG0-REGn. Thus, the general usefulness and the reliability of the programmable LSI 1 are improved independently of external circuits of a microprocessor, or the like.
