Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable a spray gun to be controlled satisfactorily by applying a voltage in a direction where a valve is opened to open a valve, then applying a voltage in a direction where the valve is closed and repeating this voltage cycle at least once in a method for controlling the operation of the valve by transformation of a piezoelectric element. CONSTITUTION:When, for instance, a voltage of +50V is applied to the electrode 2 side and a zero voltage is applied to the electrode 3 side, a piezoelectric element 1 bends upward and consequently a clearance develops between a valve seat 6 and the piezoelectric element. At the same time, fluid under pressure is ejected through a nozzle 5 and a valve is closed after injection of a prearranged amount of fluid. Therefore, a voltage between the electrodes 2, 3 has only to be reduced to a zero level. However, actually the transformation of the piezoelectric element represents a hysteresis, so that if the voltage is at zero level, the transformation is not normalized immediately, leaving a clearance between a piezoelectric element valve and the valve seat. Consequently, when an inverse voltage of the above-mentioned voltage is applied, e.g. -30V on the electrode 2 side and 0V on the electrode 3 side, the clearance caused by the hysteresis of a transformation of the piezoelectric element is eliminated and also the transformation is normalized rapidly. Thus the response speed of a nozzle can be accelerated.
