Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain an image having good contrast, by calculating the gradation histogram of a subtraction image at every block and calculating the data of the image emphasizing characteristic in window processing on the basis of the max. gradation value and peak or bottom value of said histogram to transmit the same to an image emphasizing means. CONSTITUTION:A block memory 22 divides the image signal pictures stored in frame memories 13, 14 into blocks each having a predetermined size and an operation panel and system controller 21 reads the content of the block memory 22 to prepare a histogram and calculates the level value and width value of a window curve uniquely determined by setting the max. gradation value to the predetermined value of window output and setting the peak value to the highest rank value or the bottom value to the lowest rank value. The operation panel and system controller 21 sends out the data of the window curve to an image emphasizing circuit 15 to automatically control a window. Therefore, an image having proper contrast can be simply obtained.
