Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve detection accuracy by arranging magnetic detecting elements over plural tracks in the width direction of the tracks. CONSTITUTION:A rotor drum 3 is fitted on a rotary shaft 2 and a detection part 4 detects the angle of rotation of the drum 3. A ferromagnetic body which is a magnetic recording medium is stuck on the outer peripheral surface of the drum 3 by a coating method, etc., and plural tracks 5-8 are formed on the ferromagnetic body while shifting in the axial direction of the rotary shaft 2. The detection part 4 is provided with magnetic detecting elements 9-12 corresponding individually to the respective tracks 5-8. For example, the element 10 arranged to the overall width W of the track 6 is provided with elements P1-P4 and is divided into three parts 10a-10c corresponding to the respective track parts 6a-6c; when the drum 3 is rotated as shown by an arrow 13, a relatively flat detection output where drops in resistance value at bottom parts of magnetic poles are suppressed is obtained from the whole element 10, and a recording part where a magnetic pole is formed is securely detected on the track 6.
