Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an isotactic polypropylene having a high molecular weight and low isotacticity, by polymerizing propylene in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a specific supported Ti catalyst and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:Propylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by using (A) a supported Ti catalyst with 0.01-0.5wt.% supported Ti atoms obtained by removing a heterocyclic compound (preferably a nitrogen-containing compound and/or oxygen-containing compound, e.g. pyridine) from a composition prepared by bringing a complex of TiCl3 with the heterocyclic compound into contact with a metallic chloride (e.g. MgCl2) other than the TiCl3 as a transition metal catalyst component and (B) an organoaluminum compound (e.g. trimethylaluminum) as an organometallic compound component. The resultant polypropylene can be blended with polypropylene polymer, etc., to improve impact resistance thereof.
