Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve heat-sealability, transparency and blocking resistance, by homopolymerizing propylene by use of a specific Ti-Al catalyst and then random- copolymerizing the propylene homopolymer with propylene, a linear α-olefin and ethylene.
CONSTITUTION: Solid (A) obtained by reducing TiCl4 with an organic Al compound or metallic Al and treating the reduced product with a complexing agent, is employed as a polymerization catalyst. Homopolymerization of propylene is continued until 5W500 times the weight of solid A, of the homopolymer is formed. Then, a 5W12C linear α-olefin and ethylene are copolymerized with the PP until 1,000W10,000 times the weight of solid A, of a copolymer is formed. H2 is used for molecular weight control. The above polymerization is carried out so that the copolymer has 72W99.4wt% of propylene, 0.5W20.0wt% of linear α-olefin and 0.1W8wt% of ethylene. Prior to the homopolymerization of propylene, polymerization of the α-olefin or polymirization of any two of the three monomers may be carried out. In this manner, an excellent copolymer for films can be obtained.
