Abstract

PURPOSE: A ternary catalyst that is composed of a component formed by treating TiCl4 with a specific reducing agent, an organoaluminum compound and a lactone is used to produce the titled crystalline polymer insoluble in inert hydrocarbon solvents, including less cold xylene-soluble parts.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A titanium trichloride composition that is prepared by treating TiCl4 with a reducing agent of AlRnX3-n (R is hydrocarbon; X is halogen; 0< n≤3) and by activating the product is combined with (B) an organoaluminum compound of R2'AlX (R' is hydrocarbon; X is halogen) to prepare a binary polymerization catalyst. Further, (C) a lactone of 4W10 carbon atoms, which may have substitutents as side chains, such as ε-caprolactone, is added to the binary catalyst to give the ternary catalyst. The catalyst is used to polymerize propylene or a mixture thereof with other α-olefins in an inert hydrocarbon solvent, thus producing the objective polymer.
