Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the size of the device small and to reduce the manufacture cost and to improve the power efficiency by applying an AC power voltage to a capacitor without rectifying it and using a switching means so as to supply the voltage synchronously with the AC voltage. CONSTITUTION:The AC voltage from the AC power supply 10 is adjusted by a slidac 28 and boosted by a boosting transformer 30 and fed to a capacitor (ceramic capacitor or the like) 32 with a comparatively small capacitance. The voltage of the capacitor 32 rises in following to the output voltage of the boosting transformer 30 and a spherical gap 20 is short-circuited when the voltage exceeds the spark voltage of the spherical gap 20 and discharge is caused in the ozonizer 22. The discharge is caused at both polarities of the AC waveform at each half cycle of the AC voltage waveform. Thus, the rectifier converting the AC voltage into a DC and a resistor forming a time constant circuit are not required, then the power loss is less and the power efficiency is improved. Moreover, since the capacitor 32 has less capacitance than the smoothing capacitor, the device is made small in size and the manufacture cost is also reduced.
