Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption by increasing the calorific value of a variable electric heater at time of engine starting, and improving the degree of exhaust emission control capacity in a way of heating exhaust gas, while reducing the calorific value of the variable electric heater at time of a temperature rise in the exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:When an engine 1 is started with a switch 10 turned on, a current flows into a variable electric heater 6, and a platinum catalyzer 7 of an emission control part 4 is activated. At this time, each temperature change in lubricating oil and cooling water of the engine 1 is detected by each of sensors 15 and 16, and each detected signal is inputted into a control circuit 20. If so, a charging timer 28 feeds a signal of the specified pulse width to an input circuit 25, while an amplifier 35 amplifies this signal and feeds it to an actuator 38. In consequence, a changeover switch 8 is moved in a direction alpha, whereby the calorific value of the variable electric heater 6 comes to maximum. And, when exhaust gas temperature goes beyond the setting value, a signal out of the sensor 14 is inputted into an oscillator 21, thus the calorific value of the variavle electric heater 6 is reduced.
