Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the quantity of a looper to be wound onto a bobbin by providing a shuttle to be housed while its axis line is tilted so as to make the bobbin escape from a needle. CONSTITUTION: The rotary axis 36 of the bobbin 32 is tilted by forming an angle θ with respect to the rotary axis line 37 of a rotating hook 18. When a needle 41 is fixed at the lowest point 43 of the needle 41 to avoid collision with a flange 39 and the handwheel 60 is rotationally-driven, an upper shaft 53 is rotationally-driven around its rotary axis line to vertically reciprocate a needle thread take-up 62 and the needle 41. In a sewing machine 50 like this constitution, the upper shaft 53 and a lower shaft 21 are provided with parallel axis lines in a vertical plane and the bobbin 32 is housed in the hook 18 by tilting its axis line 36 so as to escape from the needle 41. By tilting the axis line 36 of the bobbin 32 by the angle θ with respect to the axis line 37 of the hook 18, the outer diameters of the flanges 39 and 40 of the bobbin 32 are increased to increase the length in the axial direction of a cylinder 38.
