Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a vertical effect type monomorph element making use of expansion and contraction of a piezoelectric ceramic sheet by forming interdigital electrodes on both sides of the piezoelectric ceramic sheet. CONSTITUTION:Interdigital type electrodes 3a, 3b are provided on the surface of piezoelectric ceramic sheet 2 while terminal parts 4a, 4b similarly opposite vertical type electrodes 5a, 5b and other terminal parts 6a, 6b are provided on the rear side. When the terminal parts 4a, 6a and 4b, 6b are connected respectively to the plus electrodes and the minus electrodes of DC power supply, the terminal parts are polarized from the + side to the - side of the interdigital electrodes 3a, 3b. Consequently, the polarization is performed alternately in the different direction furthermore, the surface layer of the piezoelectric ceramic sheet 2 is polarized more firmly than the central layer. When one surface between the interdigital type electrodes is impressed with a voltage in the same polarity as that in case of polarization while the other surface between the comb type electrodes is impressed with another voltage in the reverse polarity so that in case of polarization, the surface layer of the piezoelectric sheet 2 in the normal electric field side is expanded while that in the reverse electric field side is contracted and if alternating voltages are impressed, the element 1 reciprocates itself.
