Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title polyester fiber excellent in an ability of reinforcing hoses, dimensional stability, an ability of covering rubber and wet heat durability, comprising a specified polyester. CONSTITUTION:A polymerization accelerator is reacted with a polyester of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.95-1.5, mainly consisting of ethylene terephthalate units, and the mixture is discharged through a spinneret and quenched so that the fineness of the fiber after drawing may be 1-20d and the total denier may be 500-2000d. The fiber is solidified by cooling under conditions of formula I (wherein X is the distance from the spinneret to the surface for blowing a cooling air and is below 450mm, y is the length of blowing of a cooling air, and is 100-500mm, and Q is the quantity of cooling air blown and is 2-6Nm<3>/ min), and taken up at a speed >=2000m/sec to obtain an undrawn fiber having an elongation at break <=150%, satisfying the relationship of formula II (wherein Xx is the crystallinity, and n is the double refractive index) and having a n>=0.06. This fiber is drawn to obtain a polyester fiber for reinforcing hoses, having an initial modulus >=90g/d, a dry heat shrinkage >=4% and a void part of at least 15% on a section of a single yarn.
