Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp image having high density and high resolving power even on a paper inferior in surface smoothness by low energy, by using lanoline alcohol as an ink component. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer material consisting of a base material and the ink layer formed thereto by coating the single surface thereof with heat-meltable ink containing a colorant and wax, lanoline alcohol is contained in wax. As the base material, a film or paper is used. When the film is used as the base material, a heat resistant layer is preliminarily provided to the surface opposed to a thermal head of the base material to make it possible to prevent sticking. An ink layer formed by applying heat-meltable ink is provided to the surface not opposed to the thermal head of the base material. Lanoline alcohol is contained in wax in an amount of 0.1-60pts.wt. per 100pts. wt. of the total amount of the ink layer. Since lanoline alcohol is based on sterol and triterpene structurally, said alcohol has a cyclic ring as a skeletal and the high solubility to an oil-soluble dye when the oil-soluble dye is used as the colorant and, since said alcohol is excellent in hydrophilicity and approximate to the cellulose structure constituting receiving paper, it smoothly penetrates in the receiving paper inferior in surface smoothness.
