Abstract

PURPOSE:To take a measurement at a short distance by providing an ultrasonic wave transmitter and a receiver having their sound axes crossing each other at a position of desired distance, and detecting the frequency difference between an ultrasonic wave sent signal which varies periodically and a received signal. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic wave transmitter 2 and ultrasonic wave receiver 3 are packaged in a resin case 4 at a specific angle so as to have their sound axes crossing each other in front of a sensor 1 at a short distance. This received signal is amplified by an amplifier and inputted to a frequency difference detecting circuit. A triangular wave signal outputted by a triangular wave generating circuit, on the other hand, is sent to a timing circuit and a data output circuit counts the frequency of an input beat frequency signal for one cycle of a timing pulse and converts the counted value into a signal indicating the distance.
