Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the reuse of a magnetic disk substrate made of aluminum or aluminum alloy formed with a nonmagnetic underlying plating layer by stripping the magnetic layer and protective film layer successively formed on said substrate by a specified alkaline liquid. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic underlying layer, magnetic layer and protective film layer successively formed on the magnetic disk which is a defective or used magnetic disk and is made of the aluminum or aluminum alloy formed with the nonmagnetic plating layer and magnetic plating layer on the surface are stripped by the alkaline liquid contg. permanganic acid ions. The stripping liquid is prepd. by dissolving sodium permanganate or potassium permanganate and sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide into water. The stripping treatment is executed usually for 5-60min at 50-70 deg.C with the oxidation reduction as a main reaction, by which the above-mentioned layers can be stripped. The regenerated substrate obtd. after the stripping is subjected to mirror finishing and the respective forming layers are formed thereon. Such substrate is reusable.
