Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a roller tor conveying high-temp. steel stocks free from peeling and having superior durability, by coating the outside peripheral surface of a shaft core made of steel with cermet by means of thermal spraying and then applying heat treatment to the above at a specific temp. so as to diffuse respective metals contained in the above steel shaft core and cermet. CONSTITUTION:The outside peripheral surface of a shaft core made of steel is coated with a cermet having high toughness and excellent in heat resistance and heat-insulating property by means of thermal spraying. As the above cermet, for example, the one which has a composition consisting of about 51-95vol% ceramics, such as Al2O3, and the balance composed principally of Co and Ni and further containing Cr, Mo, Fe, Al, Y, Si, etc., is suitably used. Further, the proper thickness of the thermally sprayed film is about 0.1-2mm. Subsequently, heat treatment is applied to the resulting cermet-thermally-sprayed roller at 800-1200 deg.C. By this heat treatment, respective metals contained in the above steel shaft core and cermet are diffused and the adhesive strength between both is improved. By this method, the long-life roller for conveying high-temp. steel stocks excellent in peeling resistance can be obtained.
