Abstract

PURPOSE:To always obtain the stable light emission characteristic of a fluorescent lamp, by providing a heater and a temperature switch which controls a temperature to energize the heater intermittently at a constant level regulated in advance, and maintaining the tube temperature of the fluorescent lamp at the level exceeding a prescribed temperature. CONSTITUTION:When the fluorescent lamp 1 begins to be energized and to emit light, the tube temperature rises by heat generation due to emission. Therefore, when the temperature is kept at the level exceeding the temperature to stabilize the emission characteristic by self-heating after starting emission, the temperature switch 3 is maintained at an open state. Meanwhile, when the main switch of an image scanner is turned ON while the fluorescent lamp 1 is not energized, the temperature switch 3 detects the tube temperature of the fluorescent lamp 1, and conduction to the heater 2 is controlled intermittently. Thereby, the emission characteristic of the fluorescent lamp 1 can be maintained at a stable tube temperature. Furthermore, when a state where it is impossible to cut off the conduction to the heater 2 due to the fault of the temperature switch 3 is generated and the tube temperature rises abnormally, a temperature fuse 4 is melt, then, the conduction to the heater 2 can be interrupted.
