Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain initial medium characteristics even if writing and erasing are repeatedly executed and to improve amorphous stability at room temp. by specifying the ratio of number of atoms of Bi and Se which are the essential component of an optical recording layer and the content of other elements. CONSTITUTION:The optical recording layer 4 provided on a substrate 2 is formed of the alloy film essentially consisting of Bi and Se and contg. at least one kind of elements selected from In, Ga, Ge, Sn, Sb, and As as the other contents. The ratio of number of atoms of Bi and Se is specified to 1:1-2:3 and the elements except Bi and Se atoms which are the essential component are incorporated at 2-20at.% therein. The crystallization rate is thereby increased and the generation of a large deviation in compsn. is obviated and the initial medium characteristics are maintained without generating a large deviation in the compsn. even after writing and erasing are repeatedly executed. In addition, the amorphous stability at room temp. is improved.
