Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled polymer having active olefin terminals, industrially highly valuable for application in the form of e.g. photocurable polymers adhesives, by reaction between an isobutylene polymer having specific terminals and a specific compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) An isobutylene polymer having in 1mol. pref. 1.3-5 terminals of formula I (R<3> is H or hydrocarbon) or (B) another isobutylene polymer having an 1mol. pref. 1.3-5 terminals of formula II, prepared by hydrolysis of the polymer A and (C) a compound having group of formula CH2=CH<1>- (R<1> is H or 1-20C organic group) (e.g., CH2=CH-CH2Cl) are made to react using, in general, an initiator of e.g. formula III and a Lewis acid such as BCl3, thus obtaining the objective polymer with a number-average molecular weight 500-200,000 having in 1mol. >=1.1 terminals of formula IV (R<2> is 1-20C organic group).
