Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve uniformity of melting to horizontal direction of a cast ingot by controlling ignition phase of arc of a current controller so that each current value conducted to plural terminals for current collector from consumable electrodes becomes the same value during electro-slag remelting. CONSTITUTION:A water cooled mold 12 is set on a water cooled base plate 13 and in the inner part thereof, columnar steel ingots 11 are concentrically arranged and the cylindrical consumable electrode 10 is inserted. Plural pieces of the terminals 3 for current collector are fitted to the side face of the water cooled base plate 13 at equal interval and connected with the electric power source device 1 through thyrister device 9. The current for melting conducted in each terminal 3 for current collector is detected with a current detector 4. Comparing operation between the detected current signal outputted from the current detector 4 and a current value presetting corresponding to the melting condition to a reference radio wave setter 5 is executed with a comparison computor 6, and the ignition phase of arc for the thyrister devices 9 is controlled by inputting signal to a phase shifter 8 so that this deviation becomes zero. In this result, the uniformity of melting depth to horizontal direction of the steel ingot can be improved.
