Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of materials and reduce working time by controlling the quantity of electric conduction and the rate of cooling based on the results of surface temp. measurements at various points in stretching a metallic blank material imparted with temp. gradients in its axial direction into a taper shape by partially cooling the same while heating the material by electric conduction.
CONSTITUTION: A round steel bar material 1 is clamped by chucks 2, 2' which are also used as electric contacts, and while the part between these is being heated by electric current, it is pulled in a direction A. Next, the surface temp. of the material 1 is detected with a detector 7, and is inputted to a temp. converter 9, the signal from which is fed to an electric power controller 5 and a cooling controller 8. In the controller 5, the electric current to be flowed to the material 1 is controlled to a targeted heating temp., and in the controller 8, the material 1 is cooled by respective coolers C1WCN in accordance with the control parterns having been set in this device.
