Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance and traveling stability by laminating a hydrocarbon or fluorinated hydrocarbon compd. having an epoxy group at the end part on the surface of the magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and further forming a protective film formed by a contact reaction with hydrogen sulfide thereon. CONSTITUTION:The hydrocarbon or fluorinated hydrocarbon compd. is accumulated by a Langmuir-Blodgett's (LB) technique on the surface part of the magnetic layer 2 formed on the nonmagnetic substrate 1. The accumulation is executed on the sub-surface adjusted to pH6-8 with an aq. condition of salt under the accumulation conditions of 20-40dyn/cm surface pressure, by which the uniform film improved in the coating condition is obtd. The film is brought in contact with gaseous hydrogen sulfide to form its protective film 3. The magnetic medium having the good durability and the excellent traveling property is thus obtd.
