Since the development of the so-called automatic towel finishing machine, which cuts a long towel cloth one by one at the free end, folds the hem into three, and sews the three-folded hem, has been developed. Several devices have been developed to perform the folding process manually. For example, the one described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 1982-19282 has three work rulers 3 as shown in Figure 3 a to h.
1, 32, and 33 are used to fold the hem part a of towel A into three in the next eight steps. That is, as shown in FIG. 3a, the hem part a of the towel A is placed on the workbench 34, the primary folding ruler 31, and the secondary folding ruler 32, and is clamped from above with the dual-purpose ruler 33 in the setting state of the first step. Then, as shown in Figure b, the second step of folding onto the dual-purpose ruler 33 is performed using the primary folding ruler 31, and as shown in Figure c, the dual-purpose ruler 33 is removed in the third step, and as shown in Figure d. A fourth step is performed in which the tip of the hem portion a that has been primarily folded is pressed down with the dual-purpose ruler 33, and after returning the primary folding ruler 31 in the fifth step as shown in FIG. A dual-purpose ruler 33 is added to the secondary folding ruler 32.
Perform the sixth step of folding it upwards, then pull out the dual-purpose ruler 33 of the seventh step as shown in g of the same figure, and move to h of the same figure.
Clamp 3 is moved to the sewing work area as shown in
5, the trifold portion is clamped and the secondary folding ruler 32 is returned to its original position.

The elongated guide ruler is supported parallel to the side edge of the horizontal work surface having a substantially rectangular shape at intervals of approximately the thickness of the towel, so that the hem of the towel can be folded into three. The towel is held between the side edge and the side edge.
Define the primary folding line and secondary folding line of the hem portion. By placing the portion of the hem portion to be folded into three in parallel with the elongated guide ruler, neat three-folding is possible. The first clamp means holds the installed towel so that it does not shift while the towel is being folded into three. The work ruler is arranged parallel to the guide ruler on the outside of the side edge of the work surface at almost the same level, via vertical and horizontal movement blocks, and has a hook on the lower side of the side edge. First, the outwardly projecting portion of the hem portion is moved upward by a support drive source from below, and the tip of the hook is horizontally moved inward until it passes the guide ruler, and then Perform primary folding work on the guide ruler. Next, while pressing the hem part that has been folded down by its own weight with the underside of the hook, as it returns horizontally, the tip of the hook is used to insert the first folded hem part below the guide ruler once. Performs secondary and tertiary folding work. At this time, the tertiary folding line is regulated by the tip of the hook. The steady rest ruler is controlled by its drive source, and prevents the guide ruler from being moved back horizontally by the end of its hook when the work ruler performs second folding and third folding operations. Make sure you get a neat fold line. By performing reverse operation of the work ruler, it returns to its original position on the primary folding work surface. The second clamp means presses the hem portion folded in three and presses the hem portion from above to prevent the tri-fold from collapsing when the hem portion is pulled out from the free end of the guide ruler supported in a cantilevered manner. .

1 a to e and 2 a to c, the method for folding a towel hem in three according to the present invention is shown in its apparatus 10.
This will be explained together with the explanation of 0. In this embodiment, only the three-folding of one towel hem a will be described. First, in the first step, the towels A are cut one by one by a cutting machine or manual scissors from long towel fabrics connected via threads, and are placed on a horizontal work surface 111 having a substantially rectangular shape. As shown in FIGS. 1a and 2a, the hem portion a is placed between the side edge 112 of the work surface and the elongated guide ruler 121 so as to be perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the tri-folding device 100. A work ruler 13 is sandwiched between the parts of the hem part a to be folded in three and is arranged on the outside of the side edge part 112 at the same level as the horizontal work surface 111.
0 parallel to the guide ruler 121. This installation may be done by hand directly at the tri-folding location Q, but the conveyor belts 112, 113, 11 including the side edges are placed at the installation location P shown in FIG. 2b.
4 to the tri-folding place Q. The elongated guide rulers 121 are held in a cantilevered state with an interval approximately equal to the thickness of the towel by a support plate 122 supported on the machine base so as to be lifted up by elastic deformation when the thicker hem passes. Therefore, the hem part a can be easily passed through the lower part. The towel A placed in the state before the start of regular tri-folding is clamped onto the work surface 1 by the clamp 142 of the first clamp means 140 operated by the air cylinder 141.
11 is held down. Then, as the second step, the first
As shown in Figure b, the work ruler 130 is moved upward and horizontally moved to the inside of the work surface until the tip of the hook 131 of the work ruler passes over the guide ruler 121, and the primary folding step is to fold back the portion of the hem portion a that is to be folded into three. I do. This movement of the working ruler 130 is carried out by means of vertical and horizontal movement blocks 15, as shown in detail in FIG. 2c.
This is regulated by 0. That is, the vertical slider 152 is attached to the base 1 fixed to the workbench 110.
51 is operated along a vertical rail 151' by receiving the driving force of an air cylinder 153, and a horizontally moving slider 154 is provided on a vertically moving slider 152, and is operated along its horizontal guide rod 154'. The working ruler 130 is operated by receiving the driving force of an air cylinder 155, and the working ruler 130 is fixed on the horizontally moving slider 154 at its lower end 133. The above operation stroke of each air cylinder 153, 155 is performed until the top dead center is reached. After the first folding, in the third step, as shown in FIG. 1c, the internal pressure of the air cylinder 153 is released, the work ruler 130 is moved downward by its own weight, and the side edge 112 is slightly lifted by the operation of the air cylinder. The tip of the hook 131 is made easier to enter below the guide ruler 121. When the side edge portion 112 is formed of a conveyor belt, the actuating plate 112' installed on the lower surface of the conveyor belt is moved slightly upward by a separate air cylinder. Next, in the fourth step, the tip of the hook 131 is moved back horizontally to near the outer edge of the guide ruler 121, as shown in FIG. Perform folding and third folding at the same time. When the frictional resistance is excessive during this insertion operation, pressurized air that balances the own weight is supplied. Also, when inserting the hook 131, the cantilevered guide ruler 121 is prevented from swinging, and the tip of the hook 131 is
A steady rest ruler 135 is provided which is driven by an air cylinder 136 (primary folding is performed in synchronization with the air cylinder 155) provided on the slider 152 in order to return the paper to near the outer edge of the slider 152. That is, at the same time as the insertion operation, the air cylinder 138 attached to the slider 152 is activated, and the stopper 137, which is rotatably supported by the slider 152, is inserted into the notch 138 at the base of the steady rest ruler 135 and inserted through the protrusion 135'. to restrict the movement of the tip of the hook 131. The side edge 112 is positioned so that it comes into contact with about two-thirds of the outer width of the guide ruler 121 when it moves upward, so when it moves upward, the guide ruler 1
Form a gap at the bottom of about 1/3 of the inside width of 21.
When the tip of the hook 131 is below the guide ruler 121, the side edge 112 is lowered. After the tri-folding is completed, in the fifth step, the work ruler 130 performs a return operation that is exactly the opposite of the previous tri-folding operation, and returns to the first
Return to the position before starting the trifold as shown in Figure a, and
As shown in Figure e, the first clamping means 14 is used to remove the hem portion a folded into three from the guide ruler 121.
0, and almost simultaneously actuates the air cylinder 160' to fold the trifold into the circumferential conveyor belt 1.
65 by second clamping means 160. The circumferential conveyor belt 165 constituting the second clamping means 160 is similar to the conveyor belt 11
The transmission wheels 161, 162 and the timing belt 163 are
By operating the drive wheel 164 via the conveyor belt 113, the guide ruler 121 is pulled out from the free end of the tri-fold guide ruler 121 while being pinched in synchronization with the conveyor belt 113, and is moved toward the next sewing station.
The arrow directions shown in FIGS. 1a to 1e indicate the locus of movement of the movable parts to the next process. In this embodiment, one of the towel hem tri-folding devices 1
00 has been described, it does not depart from the scope of the present invention to provide the same three-folding device on the other side of the workbench 100 in a symmetrical manner so as to perform three-folding of both hems at the same time. .

[Scope of Claims] 1. The hem of a towel cut into a single piece is placed between the side edge of a horizontal work surface having a substantially rectangular shape and a machine with an interval of approximately the thickness of the towel above the side edge. The guide ruler is parallel to the work ruler parallel to the outside of the side edge, which is narrow between the elongated guide ruler supported parallel to the stand in a cantilevered state, and the part of the hem part to be folded into three. a step of holding the installed towel with a first clamp means, and a step of moving the work ruler upward and then moving it toward the inside of the work surface until the tip of the hook of the work ruler passes the guide ruler. The primary folding step involves horizontally moving the hem portion to fold back the portion to be folded into three, and then moving the work ruler downward, and then moving the tip of the hook horizontally back to near the outer edge of the guide ruler, and then folding the hem portion into three folds. The folded part of the hem portion is inserted under the guide ruler while holding the guide ruler steady, and the second and third folds are performed at the same time, and the work ruler is reversely operated to restore the original shape. A method for folding a towel hem in three, comprising the steps of returning to the position, and clamping the hem portion folded in three by a second clamping means, and pulling it out from the guide ruler. 2. An elongated guide ruler supported in a cantilevered manner at one end parallel to the side edge of a horizontal work surface having a substantially rectangular shape with an interval approximately the thickness of a towel; A work in which a hook is provided on the outside of the edge, adjacent to the work surface at approximately the same level, parallel to the elongated guide ruler via vertical and horizontal movement blocks, and formed on the lower side of the side edge. ruler and
a drive source that moves the work ruler vertically and horizontally;
a steady rest ruler disposed adjacent to the work ruler so as to move synchronously with the vertical movement of the work ruler but take a steady rest position for the guide ruler during horizontal movement; and a drive source that controls the horizontal movement of the steady rest ruler. and a first clamping means for holding the towel while the work ruler is in operation, and a second clamping means for holding the trifold hem portion and moving the hem portion to the free end of the guide ruler and pulling it out from the guide ruler.
