Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 産−・上の1 本発明は、金属製ハウジング内に配置されそして該ハウ
ジングの内側表面に弾性繊維材料によって弾力的に支持
されたモノリス排気ガス触媒に関する。
良末ユ且遺 現在主に使用されている排気ガス触媒は、ハニカム状構
造を有しそして触媒活性被膜を有するモノリス担体から
成る。排気ガスはハニカムにより形成された溝を流れ、
そこで接触転換される。金属製ハウジングと排気ガス触
−媒の両者は高温に曝されるので、排気ガス触媒をハウ
ジング内に固定するのは簡単でない、異なる熱膨張率を
補うために、触媒ブロックとハウジングとの間に通常弾
性Fa雄材料の層が配置されており、該繊維材料は熱膨
張率の差を補いそして同時に触媒ブロックを衝撃の影響
から保護する(例えば、ドイツ国公告公報明細書第2.
935,470号に記載されている)。
−が  じようと る0 へ 排気ガス触媒ブロックと金属製ハンジングとの間の中間
空間の封止材は絶えず改良されたにかかわらず、操作時
間が長くなるにつれて排気ガスは触媒を通り越して弾性
繊維材料層内を通って流れるので、ビヒクルの排気ガス
中の未転換化合物量が増加する。
従って1本発明の目的は、触媒の上流にある排気ガス流
からの未処理排気ガスが触媒の下流にある排気ガスに流
入するのをできるだけ防止することにある。
問 占  ・  るための−: と記の目的は、金属製ハウジング内に配置されそして該
ハウジングの内側表面に弾性繊維材料により弾力的に支
持されたモノリス排気ガス触媒において、該繊維材料に
触媒活性被膜を設けることにより達成される。
一般的に使用される弾性繊維材料は、コイル状構造の織
った金網、編んだ金網、又は細い針金又は金属フェルト
から成る網状金属構造から製造された成形体である。更
に断熱性を良くするために、弾性繊維材料にアスベスト
のような無機質繊維材料を混合するか、或いは弾性繊維
材料内に該無機質m維材料を貫通させることができる(
ドイツ公告公報明細書第2,935,470又は同第2
.920.804号)。
H&維材料には触媒活性被膜が設けられており、m維材
料に流入する排気ガスはその上で転換される。触媒活性
被膜は一般的な慣用法により繊維材料上に適用できる。
使用される触媒活性物質は触媒元素にも用いられる物質
であり、例えば白金族の貴金属である。
弾性1lJllra材料を通過する排気ガスの流速は非
常に荏いので、ハウジングに近い箇所の低温においてさ
えも、排気ガスは非常に良く化学的に転換される。
実−一施一一例 添付図面は二つの排気ガス触媒ブロックを含む触媒ハウ
ジングを示す、二つのモノリス触媒ブロック(1)およ
び(2)は慣用の態様でハウジング(5)内に固定され
、熱膨張を補償する弾性スチールウール層(3)および
(4)が挿入されている。スチールウール層(3)およ
び(4)には、スチールウール層に1〜2%濃度の塩化
白金溶液を含浸させそして燃焼することにより生成した
触媒活性白金被膜が設けられている。排気ガスが触媒ブ
ロックに供給され、そしてそれぞれ排気管(11)およ
び(12)を経て該ブロックから除去される。ハウジン
グ(5)には更に、外側が金属外殻(7)で覆われた断
熱材(8)が設けられている。必要に応じて外殻(lO
)を更に用いることができる。二つの触媒ブロック(1
)および(2)の間で該ハウジングは領域(8)に終で
ある角度で曲がっており、そして転向板(8)が設けら
れている。該転向板はハウジングに、山形基材(13)
によって連結されている。触媒液Hりにより、触媒ブロ
ック(1)および(2)の外側を通りそして弾性スチー
ルウール層を通過する排気ガスもまた転換される。
え1立旦] このタイプの触媒の開発に今までたどった方向は、弾性
繊維材料を一層有効に密閉してガスが通過するのを防止
することであった。しかしながら、多量の熱に曝されそ
して大きな温度の変動があるため、この密閉は常に不適
当でありそして耐久性がなかった0本発明においては、
不可避的に弾性繊維材料を通過する排気ガスを触媒作用
により転換するという点で、この開発方向から離脱した
。従って、比較的長い操作時間後でさえも、一定の排気
ガス特性を期待できる。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. (1)金属製ハウジング内に配置されそして該ハウジン
    グの内側表面に弾性繊維材料により弾力的に支持された
    モノリス排気ガス触媒において、該繊維材料に触媒活性
    の被膜を設けたことを特徴とする上記のモノリス排気ガ
    ス触媒。
